The Right Person for the Right Job

atWork-NDE2018

As human beings, we all deserve to feel a sense of purpose in the world and there is nothing more powerful than finding the right person for the right job.

While having purpose means different things to different people, having a job is often a major contributing factor to building a strong sense of purpose.

When we look back through history the human race has always sought to work. Although in different forms through time, work has functioned boost the way human beings feel about themselves: their reason for being and their sense of belonging and contributing.

Having a job gives structure to one’s day and encourages a daily routine. Working keeps us productive and focused, and encourages us to strive for a routine that allows for work-life balance. When we don’t have work and a reason for setting an alarm each day, we miss out on the health benefits of work.

The actual work we choose to carry out contributes to our sense of purpose. Building and growing skills that we receive payment for builds our sense of self-worth, and our belief in our ability to do, and keep, a job. Working also allows us to build upon our social skills, feel like we fit in, and grow our self-confidence. What we do for work often contributes to the way we define ourselves.

There are also functional benefits to working and a sense of independence that grows with having a regular pay cheque, paying bills, and accumulating savings to budget and spend the way we want to. Contributing to society is rewarding, and feeling included in society through what we do for work is fundamental to maintaining a strong sense of purpose. We not only support ourselves but also our family and dependents, which significantly enhances our sense of purpose.

As of November 2017, the unemployment rate for NSW was 4.6%, and according to the Australian Network on Disability, there is a 9.4% unemployment rate for Australians who live with long term or permanent injury or health condition.

atWork Australia works tirelessly to close this gap and get the right people into the right jobs. At the heart of what we do is the belief that employment transforms lives – not only the lives of individuals but also the lives of their family, friends and community. We all deserve to have a purpose through meaningful work. We all deserve the rewards that having a job enables.

Some people require some additional support to get and keep a job, and we are here for these people – every step of the way, including post placement (once a role is commenced). We provide on the job support and ongoing support for people who require it.

We are in four locations in the general Nepean area and 190+ locations nationwide, including:
